People and markets want the product that gives them the most, for the least effort. There is nothing stopping an innovative corporation with hundreds of millions of zombies to crowd-source from and hundreds of millions of monopoly dollars to spend, from adapting to the persistent change of our time.
Although, one could say that once you accept the burden of "intellectual property" the masses will work to remove you from the equation... (ie the "Music Industry)
There are four accepted standards for today's electronic businesses and they are:
- Value
- User Control
- Transparency
- Trust.
I think most rational privacy lovers find less and less reasons to trust the allegedly United States Department of Defense funded Facebook. (http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=12685, http://articles.cnn.com/2008-09-05/tech/facebook.spies_1_facebook-social-networking-site-space)
- As an organizer of several online groups I can personally tell you that Facebook has reduced its value to me, with each round of "upgrade."
- User control and transparency??? Laugh out Loud
- My experiences are not unique either; all of the organizers, developers and high-end users report the same drop in quality of services, despite a climb in traffic.
So if you are like myself and utilize social networking for a wide range of activities and ventures, you may be wondering what is next, if Facebook is designed & predicted to fail...
Brave New Science has been pioneering a new social media venture, "webdoc" (Brave New Science: Webdoc). Webdoc is a social network that provides a very rich method of which to share media and information.
And with the webdoc staff highly available to answer questions, or occassionally leave a comment, it's a place I feel comfortable creating and sharing content.
Now, if I had to really put a dollar down on where the herds will migrate in the great Facebook exodus, that would be to Google.
Google is one of the coolest thing to come out of military funding since the internet itself. (They have really let me down on jetpacks)
https://plus.google.com
Google plus is the information giant's new social network which is currently in the beta testing stage. The benefit to the user will be added privacy and ability to control which parties can view your content. From all available information it appears geared towards a more mature audience than the book of faces, yet more common user friendly than linkdin.
With social networking now a trillion dollar industry, the free market competition is not likely to quit trying to destroy social leader, Facebook, anytime soon.
If your social networks are limited to facebook, linkdin or email... you want to diversify.
Mark my words, watch google.
